Dumbbell Bench Press
The Dumbbell Bench Press allows a greater range of motion than the barbell version — you can lower the dumbbells deeper for a better chest stretch and bring them together at the top for a stronger contraction. Independent arm action also prevents strength imbalances and requires more stabilizer muscle engagement, making it a more complete chest developer. It is also safer for solo training since you can drop the dumbbells if you reach failure.

-
Step 3
3. Position the dumbbells at the sides of your chest with palms facing forward and elbows at ~45°
-
Step 4
4. Press both dumbbells simultaneously to full arm extension, bringing them together at the top
-
Step 5
5. Squeeze your chest hard at the top for 1 second
-
Step 6
6. Lower under control until you feel a deep chest stretch — the dumbbells should be at or slightly below chest level
Pro Tips
- Do not bounce the dumbbells off your chest — control the negative. Keep your shoulder blades retracted throughout — this protects your shoulders and creates a stable pressing platform. At the top, do not let the dumbbells clang together — maintain tension. For incline dumbbell press, set the bench to 30° for upper chest emphasis.
