Seated Chest Press

Target Muscle: Chest
Equipment: Chest Press
Level: Beginner

The Seated Chest Press Machine is the most accessible and safe way to build pectoral mass for lifters of all levels. The fixed, biomechanically optimized press path guides your arms through the safest and most effective range of motion for chest development. Independent diverging arms allow natural movement and prevent the stronger side from compensating. Because you are fully supported by the seat and back pad, you can push to true muscular failure without a spotter.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Step 1

    1. Adjust the seat height so the handles are aligned with your mid-chest (nipple line)

  2. Step 2

    2. Select your weight on the stack using the magnetic pin

  3. Step 3

    3. Sit with your back, shoulders, and head firmly against the pad; grip the handles with a full grip

  4. Step 4

    4. Press the handles forward and slightly together (the diverging arm path does this naturally)

  5. Step 5

    5. Extend your arms until they are nearly straight but not locked

  6. Step 6

    6. Lower under control over 2-3 seconds until your elbows are at or slightly behind your torso, feeling a deep chest stretch

Pro Tips

  • Alignment is critical — if the handles sit too high, you will feel it in your shoulders. Reposition the seat so handles align with mid-chest. Do not bounce at the bottom or use momentum to start the press. Squeeze your chest as if trying to bring your biceps together at the peak of each rep. For upper chest focus, use the Incline Chest Press (MF-CP200).
